Today was a good day to be the lone American at Afyon Lisesi. Two people, Muratabi (which means older brother Murat) and his wife, Arzabla (older sister Arzu), work in my school's canteen. They are the equivalent of lunch ladies, but they don't wear hair nets and they are not as grumpy. They are responsible for feeding me everyday, and they are wonderful for putting up with my vegetarianism by making my toast special, because I am the only person in my entire school who eats the toast without meat.
Today, when I was ordering lunch, Muratabi saw me and told me to come inside the canteen, which is a pretty cool privilege because usually only the people who work there and teachers are allowed back there, the rest of us just have to crowd around the order-windows and look in jealously. Muratabi pulled a cake out of the fridge that one of the canteen people had made and he made me sit down and eat a piece. It was really good cake too. After I finished, he gave me another piece, which I shared with my friend Gözde.
This week is the second (and last) week of midterm exams. I have my German exam tomorrow and English exam on Friday, wish me luck!
